
PTV - Captain Karim Baqeri’s down to the line goal allows his team Persepolis to snatch a 2-1 victory against its archrival Esteqlal.
The Blues took the lead when skipper Farhad Majidi netted the opener on the quarter hour mark in front of 80,000 spectators at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on Wednesday.
Persepolis striker Hadi Norouzi, however, scored the equalizer in the 37th minute of the game.
All was fair and square until the 35-year-old Baqeri fired home the second goal three minutes from time with a long shot from 30 meters to seal the significant victory for the Reds.
Persepolis and Esteqlal have so far played each other 68 times. 32 of the matches ended in draws, Esteqlal won 20 times, while Persepolis has been victorious in 16 matches.
The win moved the Reds to the third place in the Iranian Premier League (IPL) with 43 points, while Esteqlal dropped to the fourth place on 40. Sepahan tops the standings with 52 points, followed by Zob Ahan on 46.
