Iran have the better attacks although Rahmati made a good save. A few good chances for Iran that have either been saved by the Chinese keeper or gone over the bar.

Goaaaaaaaaaallllllllll

Khalatbari takes a shot from Gholamin's pass. Blocked by keeper. Loose ball comes to Ando who coolly directs it into the Chinese goal.

China 0-1 Iran  Grin

Gholami's goal. Could have easily been a penalty if the ball had overrun him  Grin

China coming into the game now.

They put the ball in the net but ruled offside <whew>

Iran seems to be taking it easy now. They just have to kill the game.

Despite a late flurry from China and at times our defence running around like headless chickens, we managed to get a decent result.

South Korea will be another matter and I doubt whether we'd get any result against them playing the way we did today.

I would not be bothered with a loss as it is a testing game to check and finetune tactics. In these games results are not important, it is what is learned from them that should be used to gage their effectiveness.

Branko jaan;
Thanks for your efforts.  I saw the highlights.  I agree Korea will be much tougher.

The only weak place is our defence.  I am happy that we have good forwards.  Our goalie also is okay.  Ghotbi needs to work on defence.

persian jan...
I think the only time we had a great defense was in the 70's....basically 78 WC team...

if you recall it...we allowed only 2 goals before qualifying....and both were by S.Korea....I might forgot something but I think that's all we allowed...
in 98 WC team....we had an OK defense but not solid either....I know there are a lot of people thinking 98 defense was great...IMHO, no, they were not. Simply, if they were good....we would not have that 2-2 Ausi, we would not have to get to that point at all...

I think the new defenders are just full of themselves....Aghili used to be more solid, so was Jalal Hosseini, but due to the fact that there has not been used any other players, they think they own those spots.
we need faster, younger, smarter
