Former Germany U-21 Starlet Ashkan Dejagah Accepts Iran Offer - Report

Ashkan Dejagah, a former Germany youth international, has reportedly accepted an offer to play for Iran's senior side.

More than a year after making his last final appearance for the Germany U-21 national team, Wolfsburg attacker Ashkan Dejagah has decided to play his senior international football for Iran, the country of his father.

According to a report from Tehran-based newspaper Khabar Varzeshi, after lengthy talks with coach Afshin Ghotbi, the 24-year-old has accepted an offer to play for Iran.

Since winning the U-21 European Championship, Dejagah has been overlooked by Germany coach Joachim Loew. According to the report, the versatile attacker will be treated as a star in Iran, and will wear the No. 10 shirt made famous by Persian legend Ali Daei.

Iran are currently preparing for the 2011 Asian Cup, which will begin on January 7 in Qatar.

Dejgah decided not to play for Iran in Asian (or Washee) Cup in January 2011.

I have a mixed feeling.  From one hand I think Iran should never call him to play for our National Team.  From other hand, I do not blame him because if he gets injured, his club will not pay his bills.
