My preference would have been for Iran to boycott the games.

Out of 16 teams, eight are Arab teams, so Wah-shee cup is a good name for it. Cheesy

Iran has a chance to advance from its group, but beyond that I am not sure because we will face energetic Korea or Australia.

Kuwait is coming into this after winning West Asian games and Persian gulf games.  Japan and Korea are better prepared than Iran.

In Iran the criticism is that when players drive $200,000 - $300,000 cars, then they do not have incentives to put their heart out.  Should Iran have sent Zob Ahan team with one or two changes?  It might have done better.

Good to see Team Melli is made up of players from various teams in IPL.  I remember back in the late 90s Team Melli was made up of mainly if not all Persepolis and Esteghlal players only, Persepolis was a powerful team those years.

Trying to recall our WC98 team;

Abedzadeh - Persepolis
Nakisa - Persepolis
Estili - Persepolis
Zarincheh - Esteghlal
Daei - he was playing in Germany that year but a Persepolis player before that
Bagheri - also playing in Germany that year but a Persepolis player before that
Azizi - also playing in Germany that year but a Persepolis player before that
Mahdavikia - Persepolis
Minavand - Persepolis
Khan Mohammadi - Persepolis
Khakpour - Persepolis
Peyrovani - Persepolis

Can't remember more players from 98 squad just now, trying to think of the games against Yugoslavia and USA but struggling to remember, getting old I guess

I think we have a good chance
it all depends on what's in their mind
this is a place for NEW and YOUNG players to show what they can do
To be honest...Nekonam and Shojaie won't help as much, trust me on this, they will make sure their legs are in good shape for OSASONA games  Shocked
but, Ansarifard, Arash Afshin are very young and great players
Haj Safi the same, young and will have a bright future...
my point is, these guys will work their a s s off and that could make a difference
now, the question is, will Qotbi trust them?
The line up I have seen from the past few games was not THE BEST, IMHO
If I were a coach,,,,,here would be my line up...and this is according to the 4-2-3-1 system that Qotbi likes...

Rahmati, Keeper
Khosro Heydari, Right Def. Hadi Aghieli or Nosrati both are the same, Talebi in center and Haj safi in left def.
Nekunam and Teymourian 2 defensive mid.
Shojaie in right, Pezhman Nouri in center and Arash Afshin in left
Karin Ansarifar up front

I tell you why this way....Pezhman Nouri has played this position in Malavan and we all know how hard he plays...with heart. Shojaie is great on right and can send ball for Khosro heydari to cross....
Afshin and Ansarifard both are great in the air and on the ground
Arash Afshin played in Left in the game of Foulad vs. SS and killed the SS defense and is used to that position...

The only issue is the defense...center defense...
Aghili, Nosrati, Seyed Jalal. Talebi are all the same... I wish Qotbi kept Montazeri... He would have helped much better than these guys....
Then you can sub, Khalatbari, Mohammad Nouri, Iman Mobali
or
Norouzi and Gholamie....Rezaie is no good....only if you want use his speed, that's it.
Look at what he did in PP  Roll Eyes

the line up I gave you, is THE BEST
I can discuss with anyone and bring more reasons Wink

Jan. 3, 2011
Abzar Rahimi of Rah Ahan OUT, Bengar of Sepahan IN.
Any team can change players from the 50 submitted six hours before kick off time.

Doodor do Iran. Cheesy

Very bad move by Qotbi to cut Abuzar Rahimi.
1st of all, Rahimi is a left defender, Benghar is a center defender
2nd, what if Haj Safi get injured or get a RED card?
I know that Qotbi think he could use Nosrati there, like he used Nosrati in PP, but this is different. This is TEAM MELLI
This is Asian Cup

Qotbi must stop kissing a s ses . Amir GN does not like you any way Mr.Qotbi  Cool

So many posted related to Wah-shee cup.  There is no organization. Tongue

So far so good, after beating Iraq 2 -1, and North Korea 1 - 0, Iran is ranked first in its group.  Iraq will most likely rank second.

I am not sure about Iraq...
N.Korea can play close, defensive game, and then counter attack
Iraq is not in a good physical condition among the teams I have seen
Jordan so far in my opinion is really really good and ready
I won't be surprised if they make it to FINAL

We are looking good too, but we need to be carefullllllllllll
I think next round is different.
Just think about World Cup...in the group stage teams play differently and then BAMMMMMMMMMM
I think Qotbi is smart that way and follow that way too...
last WC...Spain lost to Switzerland and then beat every team
Italy, was not so good in the group stage games, end up winning WC in PK's
and and and...many teams are like that.
So, I just hope our team does it better later on
Qotbi needs to change his style for next round

Out of Eight (Cool Arab teams, Five (5) are out. Grin Tongue

Iran has played very good so far and is the only team with 9 points.  Out of 16 teams, Iran is in the top.

Iran can win against South Korea.  The best referee in Asia Ravshan Irmatov (UZB) will judge the game.

Good wishes to our boys. Smiley

Arasti jan
even if we are on top 4, will be good too.
It will show that we are getting there.
Our boys will have a tough time
They have S.Korea now, then Japan
However, when they are in Final, it will be a win/win situation for us.
GOOD LUCK  Wink

Iran did not play for about 70 minutes. Angry  Nikonam did not play well.

Afshin Ghotebi made GOOD money, and now please leave Iran.  He mis-arranged our team.  Four forwards?  who is going to feed them the balls?

I was expecting Iran to beat S. Korea.  Both players and coach failed us.  Midfield played very poorly.  Many wrong passes.  Anasarifard did not get any balls.

Well, another disappointment in our football. Sad

Had Iran repeated their performance of the first round (all 3 matches), they would have beaten South Korea, we just did not perform in the match we had to perform.  Our football lacks professionalism, that's why we are inconsistent, look at our passing in the first three matches, then compare it with the match against South Korea.  Nekunam and Shojaee were both disappointing for players that play in Spain.
