PTV - Iran's Zahra Karimi has won the women's gold medal at the 2008 Wushu World Championships, held in Beijing alongside the Olympic Games.

Karimi beat world champion Luong Thi Hoa of Vietnam on Sunday to win the gold medal in the 60kg category of the Sanshou (free combat) discipline for women.

Mariane Mariano of the Philippines and Egypt's Walaa Mohamed Abdelrazek jointly took the bronze medal. On Friday, Iran's Ehsan Peighambari won the bronze medal in the Taolu (set routines) event.

128 athletes from 43 countries have participated in the four-day championships to compete for 15 gold medals.

Wushu is not currently an Olympic sport but the 9th Wushu World Championships are being held alongside the games in Beijing. The tournament is considered a major step towards the inclusion of Wushu as a future Olympic event.
