Persepolis concedes 2nd defeat of season

PTV - Defending Champion Persepolis has tasted its second defeat of the season after losing 4-3 to Abumoslem at Mashhad’s Samen Stadium.

On Wednesday Abumoslem, coached by Hadi Bargizar, took the lead in the 13th minute through Meisam Bao who further doubled the lead in the 26th minute.

The Reds, being two goals down, stepped up pressure and playmaker Ali Karimi reduced the deficit in the 38th minute.

Afshin Qotbi’s men managed to equalize when Karimi found the net again four minutes after the break. Abumoslem, however, scored two more goals through Davoud Daneshdoust and Saeed Khani in the 71st and 79th minutes respectively.

Karimi completed his hat-trick three minutes from time, but that was not enough to prevent Persepolis from conceding a defeat to Abumoslem in the 10th week of the Iranian Premier League (IPL).

The victory moved Abumoslem up to the 10th place in the IPL, with 10 points, while Persepolis remained 5th, with 15 points.

Isfahan’s Zobahan currently leads the table with 20 points, followed by Barq-e-Shiraz and Paykan with 18 points apiece. Kerman Mes is placed fourth with 16 points.
