Server Announcement: 18th October, 2008

Dear friends,

On behalf of PFC I would like to apologise for the problems encountered by the server which resulted in PFC being offline for 4 1/2 days.

Unfortunately the server that the site is hosted on had a major hardware crash that resulted in the software and database also being corrupted. As there was a gradually increasing fault in the discs, it also affected the backed up database over a period of time. Again unfortunately there was a failure in the detection system that prevented the fault to be identified as it happened.

The hosting team were working flat out to rectify the problem but due to the nature of the crash, all databases had to be individually reinstalled and activated. This was true for all organisations that had hosted their site on that particular server.

We have been assured and guaranteed that this will never happen again and that checks are in place to identify any future problems that could arise.

We at PFC were unable to contact the members as we did not have access to the server and member emails hence we were unable to provide any updates. We have implemented a system to be able to contact and update individual members should any problems arise in the future.

We are very sorry for this inconvenience and aplogise profusely for the problem. Should anyone wish, I will be happy to provide a log of the updates from the hosting company from 14th to 18th October as they battled to overcome the problem and bring the server online.

We hope that you will be active and support PFC and make it a successful, efficient, and friendly site for all Iranians. We will also be implementing some new features which will enable greater participation of members in the home page and news sections.
