PTV - Zob Ahan fails to leapfrog Esteqlal after being held to a 1-1 draw against the league leader with only four games remaining in the season.

Zob Ahan started the game attacking, knowing that the match was their best to claim the first place and bring down Esteqlal from the top of the table.

Igor scored the opener for Zob Ahan eight minutes into the game at Isfahan’s Naqsh-e-Jahan Stadium.

Esteqlal had to wait until the 55th minute for an equalizer, which came when Mojtaba Jabbari converted a penalty to keep his side in the first place with 58 points, one point clear of Zob Ahan.

In another Wednesday match, Mes defeated Sepahan to get past Persepolis and move to the third place with 49 points on goal difference. Sepahan dropped to the fifth place with 48 points.

Wednesday’s results bore good news for Persepolis which remained hopeful of defending its IPL title in the four remaining matches.

Wednesday match results

Barq 1:2 Paykan
Abumoslem 0:0 Rah Ahan
Pas 5:1 Esteqlal Ahvaz

This IPL seems to be a funny old thing. Its quite exciting with Bargh starting so well and then slipping badly and in a free fall, Esteghlal Ahvaz, one of the title contenders before the season began is in danger of being relegated and Esteghlal Tehran after surging ahead are now fighting to remain at the top and they might not make it the way things are going. And now Zob Ahan has come from nowehere to almost win the league.

There could be a very exciting end to this campaign. Wink
